James Charles is a well-known beauty blogger from New York, but now is trending on social media because he is now CoverGirl first male model ambassador.

Charles, first began documenting his work on Instagram about a year ago. His short videos went viral last month as well as having more then 430,000 followers.

“aspiring makeup artist” is what he calls himself, Charles has never had any formal make-up training. But he has some serious skills in what he does. Charles decided to post his first YouTube makeup tutorial seven months ago and since then he has received 70,700 subscribers. He even has a Snapchat Galaxy Filter.

This 17-year-old is about to have another breakthrough moment under his beauty belt.

CoverGirl spokesmodel Katy Perry broke the news early Tuesday morning and said, “Honored to have the pleasure to announce the very first COVERBOY, James Charles!” she wrote on Instagram.

“This is literally the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me,” Charles said. “I mean, i’m basically, like 12-years-old, so not many cool things have happened in the first place, but this is definitely is the icing on the cake.”

“All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful,” CoverGirl executives said.

“James Charles is no exception one year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many faces of his personality, serving as an inspiration to anyone who might have been afraid to do the same,” CoverGirl executives states.

It’s nice seeing a fresh new face representing Covergirl, and for the first time ever it’s a guy. So many are excited to see what Charles is able to bring to towards the company as well as hoping being the first male ambassador will help inspire those that need it.
